T’was the night before the Hors D’oeuvre Party and in the corner of our living room
The kids forced Christmas smiles under promising threats of doom
“Stand straight!” “Stop crying!” “Look at me, not the ceiling!”
133 frames later- and only my head was reeling
The kids pulled it off, and forgave all my stresses
And went to bed dreaming of Transformer Bad Guys and Pretty Princess dresses
Now, t’is the morning of the Hors D’oeuvre Party and my wrists are beginning to cramp
But, If I can finish before work I’ll be the Christmas Letter Champ
Merry Christmas, everyone! What a joyous season! We have been in full swing since November 23rd- Christmas cookies, Christmas tree, Christmas lights, Christmas parties, Christmas movies, Christmas driving, (we’re up to 5,386 miles so far.) On top of all that we’ve been blessed this year with a refined sense of the Christmas Spirit. We’ve been keeping our eyes open to the different gifts God has given us over the past year- our loving families, our community here in Tacoma, my job, new friends and the continued, all-supreme care, grace and provision of God in our lives. How about an update?
We’ll start with the youngest… Beau is 3 and ½ and busy. He’s going to preschool 2 days-a-week, and loving it. This year his schooling is not much more than a glorified playtime with an emphasis on sharing. So far, he’s passing. He’s been pretty active at the YMCA. We took a swimming class together earlier this year. Beau loves to swim! I’ve been watching, and there is no other activity that brings out bigger smiles from that boy than being in the water. When we first started his classes he kept choking on the water. He couldn’t stop smiling so he kept drinking up the pool! He didn’t mind.
He’s moved on from swimming to soccer. He started in the 3’s class and soon was bumped to the 4 and older class. Still, he is by far the best kicker in the class. I don’t know where he came from. Jamie and I were never in to the traditional sports, but Beau has been in love- and innately talented- with anything ball since he could stand. We’ve got a lot of sports-learning to do!
Now, my Lily… Could God have given us a more beautiful, graceful and kinder girl?! To say that she is the opposite of Beau does not imply that her brother is ugly, rude and mean. Maybe it’s just the natural polar opposites that little boys and little girls have. Whatever it is, we just love our little girl! She too is in school, at Grant Elementary, center for the expressive arts. She loves school, (gets that from me) and loves her teacher, Mrs. Bordeaux. We love her school as well! Last year she didn’t speak a word until January, but this year she has made a friend. Introducing… Lena!!!! The two of them are BFF! In fact, both our families have become good friends through our girls. Lily is really doing quite well at school. She’s even starting to read and write!
Lily also did swimming this year at the YMCA. She’s a little more cautious than her brother, but loves to swim and can almost swim on her own. She and Beau had a lot of extra practice over the summer at the Olson’s lake down in Lacey. This was probably the highlight of their summer.
She is now learning gymnastics and is really quite graceful! She is the only girl in her class that can land a quadruple backflip-with-a-twist dismount from the balance beam! She is also in a ballet class Tuesday morning’s at school and will be performing Cinderella on the 18th of this month.
Jamie still holds her place as World’s Greatest Wife, Mother, Chef, Accountant, Boss and Friend. She makes our home warm and loving and a great place to learn, live and grow- everyday. She has been enduring my long hours at work on the new job. I’m still writing insurance, but I’ve left State Farm and started with a new American Family agency here in Tacoma. I’m very happy with the company- especially my agent and co-worker! It’s just the 3 of us, but we’re on a mission!
Like I said, God has been taking great care of our little family- He always does! This Christmas I pray God’s goodness warms your heart, filling you with joy and satisfaction- so you can bring joy and satisfaction to others.
Merry Christmas and a very blessed New Year,
Kyle, Jamie, Lily and Beau
